Green leaf in drought

It's been so long since I made a blog entry,

but that doesn't mean I haven't been busy...

Here are a few photos of new things I've done.

Cross stitch is so beautiful - but after this project, I remembered why I don't do it any more :)

I made a few of these little bags for Christmas gifts - for little girls and big ones too. It's a tecnique that I really enjoyed trying because I was able to use a lot of my different fabrics for a nice effect.

Handwork is an integral part of my life. For almost a year, I have been working at Ebenezer Home, a retirement home for older people, helping them in their handcraft room. It's a tremendous blessing to work with these widows. I've learned so much. Now I have some new hobbies and new friends. Check out their web sight www.ebenezer.co.il

I'm preparing now for a Yard Sale! You don't see Yard Sales in Israel, but I have so many good books, toys and junk that I'm going to give it a try. I'll wait till after the Passover holiday, so I can sell baked goods as well, and have time to get it organized.

I don’t know if Nesher is ready for yard sales, but we'll give it a try.

What's in a Name?

I think quite a lot is contained in a name. I like making personal things for people with their name. It means it's only for them - especially for them.

I hope my nieces liked these letters. I made them to show how special I think they are - I hope to make more for others.

This is an old project - my friends idea for a baby gift. The baby and the brother.

family name plaques make a nice gift for all occasions - I charged $12 for these.

I recently had some wonderful visitors that helped me in my Fimo work and every other area of my life :) I call them by the name of Mom and Sister - if you are so fortunate to have such as these in your life, you are truly blessed.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all. I was hoping to do some cute fimo things for the holiday, but I got sick, and the holiday's here - maybe I'll do something anyway - and keep it up till Christmas :) You can do things like that when you don't live in America.

Thanks for your interest in my doings. I hope you have as much to be thankful for as I do.

Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift. II Cor. 9:15

Old to New

Shalem's "new" Army pants cut down from a pair of women's pants I found.

I love finding something other's don't want and making it into something new and usable. These two recent projects were such fun for me to do. I think this is how the Lord must feel when He takes us out of the trash our sin has gotten us into and washes us, cuts out the stained and ruined parts and re-makes us into something beautiful through His Son Jesus.

I found this dress and loved the fabric, but it was too small for me, and not the style I would give to anyone. So I made it into a skirt and used the extra pieces to decorate two t-shirts to match. Now my smaller friend has a new outfit.

Colossians 3:9-11 "Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, where there is neither Greek or Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all."

New Beginnings

It's the Jewish Holiday of Rosh Ha Shana or the New Year. Everywhere people are saying "Happy New Year" and the kids are looking forward to a break from school - even though they just got started :) It is a new beginning for me. After the summer of being together with the children all the time, I now have some time in the mornings to do my crafts again. Not that I haven't done things this summer, I just didn't have time to put them on the blog.
Here are some boxes I made for the children's teachers. I found the cardboard box form in the shape of a pomegranate and covered the lid with Fimo. The bottom is painted with acrylic and lacquered. I used up some old flower canes I have had since starting to work with Fimo and decided I need to get going to make some new designs!

Pomegranates are one of the Seven species of Israel and are in season now. This beautiful red fruit is one of the symbols of the season and of the land.
Here is some jewelry I made with the pomegranate in silver and blue - I think I'll make something similar with red and gold colors, maybe all the 7 species.

My new 7 Species magnet with the same design as the mobile, but just small size to put on the fridge.

My friend and I went to an exhibition at the mall of different businesses and factories owned by women. Many of the tables were hand work; sewing, ceramics, knitting, stained glass and of course a good number of Fimo artists. I got some good ideas and inspiration and hope to implement them in the coming year. My youngest is now in preschool, and it's a new stage in life for me to be home alone, or with my husband, in the mornings. I've been asking the Lord what He would have me do with my time. There are no end to options, but we want what He wants and trust He will continue to guide.
Blessings on your day and happy Fall :)

Earings and Keychains

Here we go again. I already wrote this once, but then deleted it when I thought I was deleting one of the photos :)
Beautiful Olive wood beads - I love the grain and hue of this wood and enjoyed putting together a sampling of earrings. Both gold and silver, Christian symbols, Star of David and just cute beads - every combination.

They're between 2" to 2 1/2" long

only $5 a pair :)

Yovel turned 4 this week, so for the birthday party I made keychains for the kids to put together with their names. On one side it's English and on the other Hebrew.

The other big keychain is Star of David on one side and Stars and Stripes on the other for all those American's that love Israel, or vice a versa.

I'm going to Jerusalem this weekend on the Women's retreat and am looking forward to waundering through the Old City on Saturday. I have so many wonderful memories of times there. I'm looking forward to browsing through the bead stores there. I'll let you know if I find anything interesting!

Bless the Work of My Hands!

One of the first ideas I had to sell to tourists was this flip flop key chain with the Star of David. The hotel liked the idea, but wanted their logo on the sandal. I worked up a sample which came out well, so got an order for 30, than another order for 25...

I was still trying to figure out how to fit my Fimo work into my already full days. I ended up working into the night to complete orders. Of course I had a disaster. I burned a full tray of 25 flip flops because I forgot to set the timer and was busy doing other things. I was so sick at the loss of time and material I almost called it quits right then - Shimon said, "If this is what working does to you, I don't want you to continue!" I asked the Lord if I was doing the right thing, or working in my own strength. He gave me confirmation that I was in the right way, but needed to rest my heart in His provision for me. I believe that when I obey Him and walk in His way, He will bless the work of my hands. So, I started to pray before, during, and after each project or order, "Lord bless the work of my hands. Receive glory from my labor. Guide me in this endeavor..." It wasn't that I hadn't prayed for the work before, but it wasn't with the same heart of submission and reliance.

I looked up the phrase "bless the work of my hands" and found Deuteronomy 16:15 which in context is during the Feast of Tabernacles - when the Children of Israel were to gather their harvest and celebrate 7 days "because the LORD your God will bless you in all your produce and in all the work of your hands, so that you surely rejoice."
Thus the name of my blog and "compay"
Heather's Hands
I'm still working on some sort of logo and not even sure if it'll ever be a real company - but the Lord will show and until then I'm enjoying the way.

Finding Fimo

Fruits of the Spirit magnets (7 Species minus wheat, plus Apples, lemons and flowers
Fruits of the Spirit

Seven Species

In the summer of 2008 I decided to learn a new craft.
Together with my friend Kyoung-Im I took 6 lessons from a wonderful woman on how to make things with Fimo.
For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a polymere clay that you mold and then bake to make it hard.
I enjoyed the experience very much - and made some flowers and beads to start out with.
In July I decided to make a Seven Species of Israel wall hanging for my friend who was having her 50th birthday. She loves the 7 Species and for the occasion I wanted to make something special. I was inspired by some worksheets my son brought home from school of very simple line drawings of each of the 7 Species. I thought "I can make something like that from Fimo!" and spent many hours mixing colors and coming up with a design I was happy with. I finished early - her birthday's not till the beginning of August - and put my work on the wall to enjoy before sending it off in the mail.
One afternoon another friend was visiting and commented on the nice wall hanging. I mentioned that I'd made it and she said, "my mom's always looking for things like that to sell in our hotel." I didn't think much of that comment until just a few days later when my husband called and said "I'm out of work!"
Thus started my "business" with Fimo crafts.
I enjoy it very much and after nearly a year I still have many things I want to try and ideas to explore.
In the following posts I will introduce my past projects, and hopefully some new ones as the inspiration comes :)
